Dedicated server means you are the only user of the server. The whole server is dedicated to your needs. You can host one or more sites on the server as you see fit and administer it in any way you wish.

Several virtual dedicated servers will share a parent server. Each virtual dedicated server is effectively isolated from other accounts; users have full control over the server space for their server. You may find this previous forum thread helpful.

RE: Difference between VPS and Dedicated Hosting
Most people are under the impression that having your own server and being the sole user usually brings out the best performance but cloud and VPS have proved that so wrong. Sharing in many cases has led to much more efficient use of power.

RE: Difference between VPS and Dedicated Hosting
A VPS is similar to a dedicated server, wherein you get a complete control over the operating environment. Using Virtulization technology, multiple VPSs are created on a dedicated server and shares the server CPU resources. With a VPS you get guaranteed RAM and full root access. Whereas in dedicated hosting a complete server is at your disposal.
A VPS in a virtual server within a server. A dedicated is a special case of shared hosting.

RE: Difference between VPS and Dedicated Hosting
Dedicated hosting is when you have a server or more than one server for hosting a single site.

VPS hosting is when multiple sites can exist on a single server. Based on the domain name that comes in to the server, the server is configured to use a different directory as the web site's root directory.

RE: Difference between VPS and Dedicated Hosting
It comes between a Shared hosting server and a dedicated hosting server.A first step for leaving shared hosting and before dedicated server. That is same as dedicated hosting server in terms of the functions like SSH access, administrative control, the flexibility to install custom applications,But affordable when compared to a dedicated server.

RE: Difference between VPS and Dedicated Hosting
VPS stands for "Virtual Private Server", its virtual by its name, its not actually a physical server. It is still a shared hosting account but unlike a normal shared hosting account, each VPS has its own dedicated slice of the CPU, RAM and disk space. So basically, what you do will not affect the other VPS on the machine. You can reboot your VPS anytime you want and you will have root access.

VPS is a small part of big server(we say big server as node).

VPS shares resources like RAM, CPU, disk space etc. from main node. That means when any provider assign 1 GB RAM and 40 GB disk space to your VPS that means 1 GB RAM and 40 GB disk space actually deducted from main node, basically it depends on the architecture is used for this.

Dedicated hosting is a specialized type of hosting service which makes it possible for the customer/client to have full or near full access to an entire server towards their use. This differs from a shared hosting plan by not having the server resources divided out between several clients. The customer is leasing the entire server and all of the resources associated with the server for use with their discretion. This may be an option to consider when the client's existing hosting is inadequate for their needs.

Dedicated servers are for those who have outgrown shared hosting or virtualized hosting platform and require complete control and access over the resources for their websites, applications, or databases. Security is one of the most important factors associated with dedicated servers, and you can customize your server security with the help of a software or a branded hardware firewall.

That is a very comprehensive break down between dedicated and VPS servers. Thank you.
