RE: On-site SEO - Metatags
I agree, submitting your meta tags should be minimal as possble, but it should be quality keywords so it will be easier for people to come to your site such as if your website is about novels or fantasy/fiction related then you must have keywords such as dwarves or dragons, keywords that really describe your website

RE: On-site SEO - Metatags
Yes Sheila, too many keywords submitted for metatags will not be beneficial, make it about 3-6 quality keywords to describe your website, make sure that the keywords are all about your site as well

RE: On-site SEO - Metatags
You are right about the metatag description, Apaullo. However, she could use more than 6 entries in the keywords part of the metatag, and it is even recommended for a better rankings on SERP.

RE: On-site SEO - Metatags
So how can we make a metatag that is recommend for a better position on SERP? I mean, how would you choose your keywords for strategic purposes? And you are saying that more than 6 keywords are better for SEO?

RE: On-site SEO - Metatags
When we talk about meta tags, three things comes our mind - Title, Description and Keywords. The most important part is title and description which describes your web page on search engines when you type a keyword. SE's shows titles and descriptions. So optimization of these two things is very necessary. After that we can concentrate on keywords. We should use keywords or fetch keywords from the web page content.

RE: On-site SEO - Metatags
Yes, you are absolutely right, mindprocessors. To Apaullo - Yes, you must use more than 6 keywords in the keywords part of the metatag. However, the metatag description should be kept short and exactly on subject. Below, I will give you an example for a good metatag keywords number.
<TITLE>This is the Web Page Title</TITLE> - Use no more than 10-12 words for optimal results <META name="description" content="Here you are defining the general keywords"> Try to use only those keywords, which are most particularly describing the content on the specific web-page. Recommended keyword number <20 <META name="keywords" content="here is the place for the longer and more informational part of your keyword metatag . Remember to add a comma after each defined keyword "> Recommended keyword number >20 |

RE: On-site SEO - Metatags
Ah...so when you make a metatag, you make 3 things, title, description, and keywords...Description must be less than 20 words and the keywords can be as many or more than 20 words? Thanks for the good example btw Max
