Data Center Fundamental Components Part 3
This is a third thread about the fundamental components of a Data center. In this thread, we will focus on next two components of a data center, i.e. Environmental control system and Fire control system.

Environmental Control Systems
Environmental control systems in a data center basically deal with all the activities related to air in a data center.
It is an essential component as it is used to maintain and control the temperature and humidity in a data center.
There are a lot of different smart cooling systems used to measure and maintain the temperature in a data center. It is used to avoid overeating of the systems.
There are also some sensors used these days to measure environmental data in a data center and some high end cooling systems to maintain the temperature.
Some good companies have an excellent air flow control system to avoid the recirculation of hot air in the data center.
However, there are some companies as mentioned in some other threads focused on “Going green” and therefore, makes use of methods that are energy efficient.

Fire control systems
Fire protection in a data center is considered of top priority, and a lot of measures are implemented for this.
Some experts recommend the use of two types of fire control systems active and passive.
Smoke detectors and fire sprinkler systems are commonly used in a data center.
Some companies also make use of fire walls around their data center to protect from any kind of damages.

water sprinklers? Is it not also dangerous to the data center?

Maximus,

A good point to make it that a good data center will have Need plus 1(N+1) for their air conditioning system. This will ensure that even is a unit goes down the temperature of the data center will remain cool and the servers will not overheat.

Apaullo,

Many data centers will have a fire suppression systems that do not rely just on water sprinklers but use other suppression agents.

But they are still using sprinklers? Inside the Data Center? It will automatically go off when it detected smoke right? Isn't it kinda risky to use inside the Data Center as well?

Some data centers do still use sprinklers. Before you purchase a server you may wish to review the company's information on their data center. You can usually find information on what they use for fire suppression, power redundancy, and temperature control processes among other needed information on the data center.

But are there servers that are water proof?

I am not aware of a server that is water proof but there may be.

RE: Data Center Fundamental Components Part 3
A data center is simply a room that facilities the storage and management, of servers and other computing equipment of any company in a precision-controlled environment. But for small and medium businesses, an in-house data center is an expensive proposition in many ways:
1.High initial investment in space and equipment
2.High day-to-day management costs
3.High cost of upgrading technology and acquiring newer services
