VPS Selection – Control Panel

The most popular control panels are Plesk, WHM/cPanel, and DirectAdmin. All of this software solutions are ``user-friendly``, featuring numerous hosting tools. In my opinion, WHM/cPanel is providing the friendliest interface; however, you will also get used with the competitors` interface fast enough. DirectAdmin is very popular among the majority of experienced webmasters, and because of that you will possibly find an answer to any related question really fast.

Regardless of the chosen control panel, you should know that each of the above software will consume extra resources (mainly extra RAM). Herein, you should select the VPS hardware specs in accordance with your chosen control panel and your website`s hardware needs. BTW, if you are good in server managing, then you could avoid the usage of control panel and edit/modify everything manually.

This is the sixth ``chapter`` of our new VPS selection series. You can check all other threads on this subject from the below links:

VPS Selection – RAM

VPS Selection – CPU

VPS Selection – Managed or Unmanaged

VPS Selection – Windows or Linux

VPS Selection – IP Adresses

Stay tuned for the next discussion on another key VPS resource/feature and its importance for your website`s performance. Do not hesitate to ask, if you have any related questions.

RE: VPS Selection – Control Panel
Another option out there is Kloxo. I have not worked with this option before personally but it is available for CentOS and RHEL.

If you opt for Plesk and have questions Parallels.com has a Knowledge Base and forum to help you out. Plesk is available for both Windows and Linux.

If you go with WHM/cPanel you also have an active forum and the help documentation section of their site. WHM/cPanel is available for Linux, but Enkompass is available for Windows.

DirectAdmin has a help section and a forum as well.

Yes, Kloxo is a good (and free) option too. Here is the thread dedicated to the free hosting control panel Kloxo - Free Webhosting Platforms – Kloxo

RE: VPS Selection – Control Panel
I think I will stick with CPanel since I already have experience using it and I admit, I find it user friendly too Tongue, Another option for me is Kloxo, I am interested to try it too but not until I familiarized myself with CPanel first Tongue

Nice Post btw Mike Smile

RE: VPS Selection – Control Panel
cPanel is what I use since day 1. I have tried all of the other control panels but from what I've seen, cPanel has the better developer support and functionality.

Yes, but cPanel is not free Smile I would prefer cPanel myself since I have grown accustomed to its functionality and properties, I haven't tried Kloxo but I am also hesitant to try it because I might be disappointed with myself on how 'noob' I am lols!

It's certainly not free but it is so worth it. If you use any of the so called free control panels on the market, you would be getting a half-hearted product without any community and development.

RE: VPS Selection – Control Panel
I agree mateSmile that is why Cpanel is still widely used because of its continued progress and development.

RE: VPS Selection – Control Panel
Well, the commercial software will almost always have a better support and higher evolution/development levels, and that is completely normal. However, we must not forget that all of the free software providers usually have very limited budgets, but in-spite of this fact, they are still offering some very competitive products.
