Going Green for Data Center

Energy consumption is increasing on a rapid pace and the impact of data centers on the environment cannot be ignored.

We have to look at the alternatives for saving energy and cost for running a data center. Some of the experts believe energy consumption for the data centers vary from two to three percent of the total energy produced in the world.

Green data center can be a solution for this issue. Data center should be optimized in terms of electricity, mechanical effort and use of high energy-efficient electronics and green computer systems to obtain the goal of minimum energy consumption and less environmental impact.

I want to know your thoughts on how companies should work on their policies regarding data centers going green.

As of now, the company I am working for does not implement this 'Green' plans though it would be very good if ever this would be implemented. The Company I am working for currently has 2000 PC workstations turned on everyday and i say this is a serious case for the environment. Though we are strictly implementing recycling of plastics all around the campus, this is still not enough, I am waiting for a desktop PC model that actually has a water cooling system, not modified but actually being sold by bundle, and I will immediately recommend to replace our old PC workstations with it.

Companies need to work on their plans. There are several other companies, which are still using old technologies that consume a lot of power. The energy utilization is at least 40% more. Companies need to understand the fact that it is not only about the money; it is also about the environment.
I can see some big companies like Google and Facebook taking huge steps in "Going Green".

We have to come in front and explain the importance of "Going Green"

Going green is vital to our work place since our clients also have started this initiative 2 years ago. Instead of using hard copies for our documents and reports we have a specific data center where we store all our reports, trackers and files. Not only that, we also practice recycling of paper copies, minimize electricity use by turning off the PC Monitors when not in use. With going green, data centers are very efficient and significant in aiding us to minimize environmental detriments.

Oh yes, our division is also changing from hardcopy to paperless information around the campus just like mariesheila's, we are slowly introducing the use of free emails being given by our ISP's in giving out memos and important announcements. Before we print around 60 memos and announcements everyday to deliver to each divisions but now all they have to do is log in and check their official email address and walla! the announcement can be read through it.

That's a great initiative of your office Apaullo. Isn't it great that companies are also concerned of Going Green? Data Centers are really vital in our society today not only that it promotes Going Green, it has played a great role in making companies communicate easier, faster and efficiently. With data centers, there is lesser risk also of misplacing any important documents since file safekeeping is ensured and secured in a way.

office Apaullo really taking some quality steps for going green. Recycling will be the best option as it saves substances, specially for plastic and paper. Thus saving the energy and sources required for there productions. And finally reducing pollution.

Thanks, yeah our government are taking steps on how to minimize waste and energy using technology and also continuing planting of trees since Global Warming is really heating us up

Indeed Londongals...if we cannot take care of our environment, we will make technologies to counter Global Warming, like more airconditioning technology but in return we also utilize more energy thus taking more from the environment.
