RE: Choosing a Domain Name
I think , that another important aspect, while selecting a domain name is the competition and competition domain names . If there is another domain similar to your desired domain name , there is a chance your website to be always in second place (or even on 5-th page) in the search engines . This is a possible problem only , when your competitors website is already high ranked in search engines and the keywords of the competitors are the same or close to your future website domain name and keywords . I believe this is an important aspect of the domain name selection and must be discussed further . The reason for my reply referring to this matter is that last year, I had made a website related to TV shows and TV shows info , but I forgot to check the competitors domain names . The result was - after 5 months of constant improving of the website SEO , my site was still buried deep in the search engines results , because of the competitors with older and well established websites . So after all of the stated above, I believe that uniqueness and originality must be the main criteria , when you are choosing your domain name .

RE: Choosing a Domain Name
Hello Maximus!

You have made a valid point here. That is the reason why I have specifically highlighted the "Unique" keyword. If you are looking for a long term, then you should always choose a domain name that is unique and stands out in the crowd of websites on the Internet.

However, one should never forget that there are cases when you are bound to choose a domain name similar to an existing name.
In such cases, you have to be optimistic and try your level best to make use of all SEO related techniques.

In my view it is the data that matters in the end. If the data in the website is unique, then no one can stop you to reach the top of search engines.

RE: Choosing a Domain Name
I agree with the basic things that we should consider about domain names, the domain names should be a little bit catchy (attractive that is) and easy to memorize so when someone looks for it in the search engine they wont have a hard time browsing or finding it. And it also should describe the brand or product that the website is advertising, (if the website is advertising). Complicated domain names will be hard to locate in the search engine so everyone should simplify it.

RE: Choosing a Domain Name
Yes, Complicated domain names should be avoided.
However, I know some domains that are very complicated, but still search engines list them at the top.
The reason is simple - "Unique Data"
In my view, we should keep things simple.
If you are stuck somewhere, then there are some excellent tools, which can suggest you some unique and simple Domain Names.

RE: Choosing a Domain Name
I also think that most search engines such as Google and even Yahoo have easier names listed on the first page of their search list results.

Rainbow RE: Choosing a Domain Name
Thank you Maximous,

You have mentioned here the key facts that we must keep in mind while selecting domain names for our new born websites. We should remember the competition worldwide. To be successful with a website we should give preference to SEO (Search Engine Optimization). If the search engines do not find our website, it would never be a successful one. Therefore, tactful keyword selection and getting domain based on the keyword can help us succeed. Hence, we should select keyword/keyword phrase that is less competitive but have a lot of search.

Am I right?

RE: Choosing a Domain Name
I agree with what you said Fkhanum that if search engine will not be able to locate your website due to your domain name then your website may not be known. So, it's better to come up with a unique and simple name so it can be located through search engines.

RE: Choosing a Domain Name
Yes, Fkhanum . I agree with the conclusion made in your post and I can only add , that your domain name will be really insignificant factor , if your website content and SEO is ``bad`` . Yes , the domain name is important , but it is just your start point from where you have to work hard and consistently to achieve good results .

RE: Choosing a Domain Name
I believe that Domain names will be insignificant when it comes to search engines looking for a certain type of content, but rather it is the tags that you submit that will matter...correct me if I am wrong but I believe that Domain names are important only with remembering their names, like for example, your googled and your site pops up, the user clicked on your site and likes the content, the user told himself to visit your site again, but because your domain name is easy to remember, he can just type your address in the address bar, making your domain name effective, but other than that domain names is insignificant.

The reason your website will climb up the charts is your content, tags and easy to remember domain name Tongue, atleast that is what I have been believing all this time, please correct me if this is wrong.
