Yes, Gabe is right. SSL does not guarantees that a current website is free of malicious content, except of course, when the malicious protection is included as an extra feature to your SSL purchase.

Even then, still be weary. Some services only scan the domain name itself that is protected by the SSL. The scans may or may not include links and content that falls within or is embedded on the site itself.

Researching each malware scan's guarantee and what exactly they scan for is a good step if you have any concern about the site you are visiting.

I agree, Gabe. So let`s summarize the facts - SSL protects the information exchange between a user and website, and normally, SSL does not guarantees that a current website is free of malicious content.

Hmm..you guys are right...while the SSL can guarantee that it is safe to browse the website, it does not guarantee the safety of the the backlinks and where it will redirect you to. If you guys did not mention it here I really thought the whole website is safe and all of its backlinks as well.
