Information Dedicated Server - Buyer`s Guide
There are numerous aspects to be considered, before a dedicated server purchase. The first and most important is choosing the right provider. Renting your dedicated server directly from the data-center is the best choice, if you want to have direct support from the service source. However, there are many resellers with better price, than the price provided by the data-center. This is possible, because of the fact, that all of the big reseller companies are renting huge numbers of dedicated servers and with the big quantities there are big discounts. Herein, you will most likely choose to rent your dedicated server from a reseller and there is nothing bad with this choice, but please check the other related thread in this forum section (unauthorized resellers). When you finally find the perfect dedicated server reseller, then it is time to choose a dedicated server and usually you will have numerous options to choose from. You must choose your server on the base of its future purpose. Generally, the processor power is the key resource, which you have to choose first and usually the price range is defined by the processor (followed by Bandwidth and Port speed). You must make a calculation, about how much processor power you are going to need and you must always include at least extra 20-30% of available resource over this calculation result. Next in the list of server resource options is usually the amount of RAM (random access memory) memory and its type (DDR2/3 etc.). The RAM is usually cheaper resource and I must advice you to purchase as much as possible, and of course from the best RAM architecture. It is time to choose the type and capacity of your HDD. Here the main dilemma is what type of HDD to choose and that choice can be made entirely on the base of the specific future purpose of your server. If you choose SSD storage, then you will have to pay more for less capacity, but in the same time you will have faster transfer rates and more reliable storage device. The next resource option in our list is the port speed. Please spend some more time, before taking a decision about the port speed, because a bad decision with this server specification, will lead to many problems afterwards. Choose the biggest port speed, which you can afford to purchase. For your reference, the most purchased port speed is 1Gb/s. After the port speed, next in our list is the Bandwidth choice. You must read everything in the terms of service, related to this resource and you must check if the entire Bandwidth quota could be used on full port speed. The capacity of the purchased Bandwidth must be adequately selected, according to your future needs. Just try not to forget for that extra 20-25% over the needed resource (the same as processor power). Finally in the process of your server selection, you will have to choose the type of preinstalled software. This software could be different types of operating systems, virtualization software and other base software platforms. Some of these products will be free of charge and for other, you will have to pay extra monthly license fees. You must remember to choose whether you want a hardware or software firewall. The hardware firewalls are really expensive, but they provide better overall security without any further load to your server. There are options, like shared hardware firewalls, but please ask your provider for details regarding such services. The software firewalls are capable to effectively protect you at lower costs, but those type of security applications are going to consume extra server resources. I will try to further develop this thread , Please ask if you have any questionsWink

RE: Dedicated Server - Buyer`s Guide
Hello, You can expect good reliability with dedicated servers. You will not go under any risk of the server being slowed down, swamped with traffic, or crashed by another site on a shared server. You get good uptime of your site.. Chance of being in under loss is very less.
