Domain Name Registrars

Information Domain Name Registrars
Domain Name Registrars are companies offering services in the domain name area. These companies are able to process a domain registration, domain transfers, domain renewals, etc… Not every company is allowed and able to start selling ``top level``(generic top-level domains ``gTLDs) domain names ``right away``. Your company must be approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers - ``ICANN``. If you want to be able to sell ``top level`` domains with a regional suffix, then your company should meet all specific rules set by the appropriate authorities in the chosen country. In order to receive ICANN accreditation, you must submit a specific application, along with certain documents to ICANN for reviewing. You must proof that your company working capital is adequate, and you must send all documents related to commercial general liability and similar.

Hey Maximus,

These are all great points! One thing to note is that not all ccTLD's (country code top level domain) are regulated by ICANN. Some of the ccTLD registries have agreements with ICANN while others do not. That said, only certain registrars are allowed to sell specific ccTLD's.

Many times, in order to overcome these restrictions, some registrars will piggyback on the other registrars that are allowed to sell these ccTLDs and are essentially resellers.

I just register my domains with my host because I want the bill to be all in one place. It also made set up a lot easier and I love how easy it is to pay my bill.
