Domain Transfers - Maximus - 03-04-2012 08:05 AM There is a variety of probable reasons to move your domain from one registrar to another, such as cheaper renewal price, extra features, etc… The transfer process is not very complicated, but if this is your first time, then there are some things that you should know. Because of that, I will try to highlight the most important aspects of the domain transfer. All newly registered domains are usually with blocked transfer capabilities. Herein, you should wait for a period of 1-3 months from the initial registration of your domain name. The exact period is different with every domain registrar, so you must check your provider`s TOS. The transfer could not be possible in cases of expiring domain too. Usually, if there is less than 2 weeks left before the expiration date, you can`t make the transfer, and the only option is renewal with your current registrar. In order to be able to transfer your domain, you have to request a special authentication code ``EPP`` from your current registrar. I forgot to mention, that before the start of your domain transfer, you should check if your domain is ``unlocked``. Some unethical registrar`s managers are placing transfer limits without your knowledge. The last and most important domain transfer aspect is the choosing of the right time for the transfer. After all of the above steps, you will receive a transfer-approval e-mail. Please note, that the e-mail will be send to the e-mail account, which is listed in your administrative contact information. When you confirm the transfer, you will have to wait for a certain release period which is usually less than a week. That`s it ![]() Feel free to ask your questions. RE: Domain Transfers - Mike_GoDaddy - 03-22-2012 07:45 PM Maximus, While some registrars have other restrictions about domain transfers, the big restriction by ICANN is that you cannot transfer a domain withing 60 days of it being registered or transferred. You can see complete details about such here. RE: Domain Transfers - Maximus - 03-23-2012 08:36 AM Indeed, there is 60 days transfer restriction period. Thanks for your important addition, Mike
RE: Domain Transfers - standingoten - 05-02-2012 08:25 PM I totally understand the 60 day limitation. If it were not present, too many people would exploit the promotions registrars are offering! RE: Domain Transfers - Brainpulse - 03-05-2013 08:01 AM Is 60 days is minimum period which need to transfer or we can make it possible in few days in special case? |
