I see website as a folder and subfolder. I always thought that folders inside a website can be called subdomain. But I know it's not right. Can someone give me insight about this?
And, what is the difference between subdomain and add on domain?

Hey onikon. I will give you a direct example for a domain and subdomain - Domain ``hostingforum.ca`` ; Subdomain - forum.hostingforum.ca . It is exactly like a folder in the root directory, except the subdomain is getting a special url. You can build completely independent website on a subdomain or you can build a specialized parts of your website on subdomain. For example, you can create a website with name ``x.com`` with content on subject related only to ``x``. Then, if you want to add different type of content named ``y``, but separately from your main content, you have to simply create a subdomain. It will be in this format y.x.com, and there you can install even different base software and so on. ``Add on`` domain is a term used in web-hosting business. It defines how many domains you can host with a single web-hosting account. For example, if you order a web-hosting plan with 3 ``add on`` domains, then you can host 3 different domains (resp. websites) on this very same hosting account.

- If I host multiple domain under same hosting, will they provide different IP address for each of them?
- I have heard the term "virtual hosting", can you give me any idea about this?

If you are referring to a shared web-hosting, then all websites will be on the same IP. Also, in shared hosting environment, your website will be hosted on the same IP with other client`s websites. Some web-hosting providers are offering dedicated IP, as paid add-on to your web-hosting plan.

Hey guys, I wanted to add a little bit to this. Virtual Hosting may have also been referring to VHOST or virtual host, and is a method for handling multiple domain names. It can be on one server or may be a cluster of servers.
This method basically allows the server to share its resources and provision different locations for specific domain names.
